Sydney »cleaned« the bridge of homelessness

In Sydney people's tents and other possessions at Wentworth Park were removed by Council workers after complaints from local residents. All the belongings were placed in storage for half a year which left homeless again at the staring point. One rough sleeper told Green Left Weekly the council told them their space “needed to be clean”.

The alarming statistics, published by the City of Sydney Street Count, states that there has been a 16% rise in the number of homeless people since last year, with an increasing number of those homeless being women and children who have faced domestic violence. This is made worse by the NSW government privatising public housing and defunding women's refuges.

To help solving the problem, »cleaning« up the city shall be made in a different way.
